There was a total of 115 check-ins for the month of December. Power was lost at the site one evening and came back the next day. Tom reset the UPS which was alerting after visiting the site. Digipeater report: No report. Missouri Emergency Packet Network (MEPN): Jim, NØTKN, reported that the system is still on the air and working well. The SEMA packet station is now up and running. Emergency Coordinator's report: Joe, KBØQHZ reported that there have been no major happenings. There is a hospital exercise scheduled for Friday, the 15th. VE Liaison’s report: Jack, WBØS, reported that one exam was given recently but the individual missed one too many questions to pass. After the meeting tonight there will be 3 exams given. CW Classes: Tom, NØSS, reports that the advanced class has added a couple new members and is putting more time into sending and receiving rather than visiting This class meets before breakfast at 6:45am every Saturday morning at Mel’s Country Café. Bill, W4RK, reports that the intermediate class is working on contest exchanges, including complex exchanges like in the ARRL November Sweepstakes. This class meets after breakfast from 9-10am at Mel’s. Kent, K9ZTV, added that the new beginning class is still available for those who know little to nothing and would like to learn. This class meets at 10am after breakfast and the slow speed class. Training Committee: Mike, KMØS, reported the Extra study group will begin next Thursday at the Department of Health building at 920 Wildwood in Jefferson City. The training materials are to be received next week, but more will need to be ordered due to additional people interested. The Extra class will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 (possibly till 9:00 some nights) every Thursday evening except for club meeting nights. Plans for a Technician class are being investigated for later in the Spring possibly to be held on Saturdays. More information will be available later. Mike, WAØZOG, added that the ARRL study guides for all three license classes are available at Amazon.com in electronic format (Kindle, I-pod touch, etc.). The price is $9.99. Club Shirts/Jackets/Patches: Mike, WAØZOG, has tried contacting the person he originally spoke with about these but has not had any luck recently. He will continue to get in touch with her, but in the meantime, if anyone else knows of other contacts, please let Mike know. New business SEMA Callsign: Jim, NØTKN, reminded everyone that the SEMA packet station still does not have a callsign. The FCC rules prohibit an employee from using his/her callsign for this purpose. Jim asked the club to sponsor the callsign. Discussion about the club’s call or getting a new club call took place. Jim will chair a committee to look into solutions. Programs for the year: Mike, WAØZOG, has asked for suggestions on programs for the year to be put on after each meeting. Suggestions include (in no particular order): Presentation on MEPN by Roger Volk, KØGOB to be done at the February meeting. An Old Time Radio Night, by Karl, WA2KBZ Radon presentation, by Greg, WBØAQV and Nancie, KDØDDY History of Radio/Telegraphy, by Rick, KCØPET QRP Operating Lightning & Grounding, by Karl, WA2KBZ Traffic Handling, by Kent, K9ZTV PC Boards, by Tom, NØSS Announcements: Bill, WAØKBZ, announced that he is running for MO Section Manager this year and would like our support. Bill’s interests include the ARES program and feels that ARES is divided in the state. Being an avid traffic handler, one of his goals if elected is to put on classes at some of the larger hamfests regarding proper traffic handling. Bill, WAØKBZ, announced that the MO Traffic Net Picnic will be held on May 1st in Linn, MO from 8am to whenever. The picnic will be held at Lions Club Park at Hwy CC and Hwy 50. Nancie, KDØDDY, noted that the “BT Cruiser” used at Field Day last year will not be available this year as it is being surplused. Mike, WAØZOG, reminds everyone to check the ARRL website for articles that do not make it into QST, but are still worth reading. Mike, WAØZOG, announced that coming up on February 26 and 27 is the 100 Acre Wood Rally. They could use volunteer hams for communication efforts. If anyone is interested in participating, please contact Mike McCrann, WDØGSY, at mike@100aw.org. Karl, WA2KBZ, has donated some newer QST and CQ magazines for newer hams. Karl also announced that the K2USA club station is being shut down. Karl passed around a QSL card from the K2USA station for people to look at. Hamfests: Winterfest (Collinsville, IL) – January 30th Presentation: Kent, K9ZTV, Bill, W4RK, and Tom, NØSS, gave a presentation on the Elecraft K3 radio.
