One list showed the active members with dates when their membership was due to expire. The other list showed inactive members and the dates that they went inactive. An attempt will be made to update these lists and to have them available at meetings for those interested. In going through the “Box O’ Stuff” passed down from Secretary-Treasurers past, some patches were found with the Mid-Mo Amateur Radio Club logo which apparently were ordered and sold for $3 each to interested club members long ago. Tom estimates these were from around 15 years ago. Only twelve patches were found and before he knew it, the Secretary-Treasurer was inundated with people waving cash eager to purchase these last few. Since money talks the meeting was briefly put on hold to pad the bank balance a bit more. Emergency Coordinator's report: Joe, KBØQHZ and J.D, WAØBER reported on the SEMA communications exercise held on October 7th. Ham radio fared very well for the event and statewide, everyone was pleased. There were about 300 entries into the system with roughly one-third of them coming in via ham radio. About 50 hams statewide participated in the exercise. Joe also reminded everyone of the Skywarn Net that is held every Tuesday night at 8pm on the 146.865(-) repeater (PL tone 127.3Hz). Please check in from time to time as more participation is always welcome including people serving as Net Control operators. Joe is now a certified instructor for the Level 1 EMCOMM classes. There were 20 people in the class held last Saturday, October 3rd. The next class is on October 10th from 10:30AM to 5:30PM. Please read Units 13-23 of the study materials in preparation. VE Liaison’s report: Jack, WBØS, reported there will be two tests tonight. Dave, KDØIRG will be testing for General, while his father, Hadley, will be taking the Technician exam. Jack also reminded everyone about the upcoming test sessions on October 15th, October 29th, and November 5th that is being put on by the Highway Patrol. These test sessions are open to anyone interested, not just Highway Patrol personnel. Contact Jack if you are interested in testing during one of these sessions. This class meets after breakfast from 9-10am every Saturday morning at Mel’s Country Café. A new beginning class will start on October 17th at 10am after breakfast and the slow speed class for those who are interested. Tom, NØSS, reports that the advanced class is still going well. This class meets before breakfast at Mel’s at 6:45am. Training Committee: No report. Bike MS Express Scripts Gateway Getaway Ride (MS150): The event went very well. The amount of riders was up 14% with over 3,200 riders. Tom, NØSS, made a note to those who wire the SAG vans: Please don’t route the wiring through the door hinges! A few power cables were mangled badly. Zonta 5K Run: This event also went very well. There were about 90 participants up from 42 last year. JOTA: Mike, WAØZOG, reported that he has not heard any more from the person who first contacted the club about helping a local Boy Scout Troop with their annual Jamboree On The Air event. An email will be circulated should any new developments occur. The event is scheduled for October 17th and 18th. Halloween Special Event Station (WØO): This event will be hosted again by Gary, KØWYN at his home in Frankenstein, MO on Saturday, October 31st. New business Club Shirts/Jackets: Mike, WAØZOG, is investigating the possibility of getting someone to supply club polo shirts and/or jackets similar to what was done a few years ago. A quick poll was taken to see how many would be interested in each type of item. More updates will follow. Club Patches: Due to the overwhelming response to the club patches, Mike will also inquire about the possibility of having more of these made, either through his contact with the shirts/jackets or maybe another vendor. More updates will follow. Announcements: Karl, WA2KBZ, announced that he has achieved the VHF/UHF Century Club (VUCC) award. This is award is given to hams who work at least 100 grid squares on VHF and/or UHF bands. In addition, Karl has indicated that he has a 6M Moxon antenna that he would gladly donate to a new ham who may be interested in getting started with 6 Meter VHF. Anyone interested please get in touch with him or Mike, WAØZOG. Upcoming hamfests: Grandview on October 17th Halloween Hamfest in Kirkwood on October 31st. Kent, K9ZTV, handed out an informative article entitled, “Commercialization of Amateur Radio: The Rules, The Risks, The Issues” to those present. This is a very important read that everyone should take the time to study, perhaps a couple times. At issue is the notion of amateur radio operators working with agencies and organizations and what is permitted under current FCC rules.
