There was discussion that anyone can call the net if the need arises. Also discussed was the need to request another Skywarn training class in early 2005. 4) Capital Region Hospital— Rick (KCØPET) indicated that he and Steve (NNØB) had met with Capital Region Hospital. Grant money is now available to provide an amateur radio station at the hospital. Rick is putting together a recommended equipment list for the hospital. A VHF/UHF station will be recommended. There was some discussion of the advantages of the Kenwood D-700 VHF/UHF as the standard transceiver for the local EMCOMM facilities and vehicles. 5) Cole Count Emergency Response Team (CERT)— Kevin (KCØCZI) reported that all invoices for the purchased equipment had now been reconciled. 501c3 Report: Tom (NØSS) reported that he had talked to the IRS and that we may not qualify as a hobby club under IRS 501(c) (7), but NOT under 501(c) (3). Unfortunately, a 501(c) (7) exemption is worthless to us because with it, donations from outside are not tax deductible. Tom is continuing to pursue. Tom noted that missing bank statements were being requested from Central Bank. Tom was thanked for all of his work on this activity. City Council Proclamation: Tom (NØSS) and Rich (NØEAX) represented the club in attending the City Council Meeting on June 21 and receiving an Amateur Radio Week proclamation from the mayor of Jefferson City. The proclamation was circulated to the members during the meeting. Thanks to Kevin (KCØCZI) for his efforts on this. Antenna/Tower Request: Tom (NØSS) noted that the antennas and towers from Boonville were no longer available. New Business: 1) Tom (NØSS) noted that Hank Guhleman (NØYSE) now resided at Oak View Living Center. Hank had been a psychiatrist in Jefferson City for many years and was instrumental in the development of this discipline in Central Missouri. Fulton State Hospital has a diagnostic center named in Hank’s honor. Tom encouraged MMARC members to visit Hank at Oak View, Room 302. 2) Ron (N6CSS) suggested visiting the KMOS tower some time after a Saturday breakfast. Ron and Kevin (KCØCZI) agreed to coordinate this activity. 3) Field Day 2004— There was much discussion of this years Field Day and the club opportunities for future Field Day involvement. Some of the noted discussions included: ? Tom (NØSS) and Kent (K9ZTV) reported on the initial results of Field Day including 1075 CW QSO’s, 1029 SSB QSO’s, 190 GOTA QSO’s, and 112 VHF QSO’s. This would represent approximately 7800 points. ? Kent (K9ZTV) noted how the club members overcame a number of obstacles during the event. These obstacles included problems with antennas, generator problems, and problems with the logging software. ? Kent (K9ZTV) expressed a special thanks to Kevin Wren (KCØJDW) for all of his efforts on the VHF/UHF station. Kevin stepped in at the last minute to supply his equipment and antennas, his time, and his operating skills to enable the station to operate. ? The philosophy of future MMARC Field Day events was discussed with a number of members offering a number of ideas. The overall theme of this discussion was an attempt to decide on the approach that MMARC Field Day should take in future events. It was noted that the number of operators was not increasing. It was also noted that the goal of the recent past Field Day events was to maximize the number of points. There was discussion of new themes that included: a) “back to basics” event b) “QRP” event c) “multi-club event” d) “served agency approach” e) “an approach that maximizes our exposure to the public”.
