Jefferson City, MO Meeting of: February 12, 2004 Meeting called to order by: Kent (K9ZTV) In attendance: KBØHNR, KCØIQX, KBØQHZ, KCØRDM, WNØX, WBØPZR, KCØCZI, NNØB, KØDXR, NØSS, KCØPET, NØEAX, NØMV, KCØLZG, KCØJDW, KC7ARR, KCØIFM, KØEMT, KAØOUV, K9ZTV, WØIFL Minutes: Minutes from the January 8, 2004 meeting were approved and seconded. Secretary-Treasurer’s Report Bank balance: $1183.92 Dues received: KØDXR, NØMV, K9ZTV, KCØRDM, and KCØPET—total received $125.00 (to deposit)—not included in current bank balance. Secretary—Treasurer will hand out a copy next meeting of the Dues Roster. See New Business for a discussion of the KCØACQ estate sale. Old Business: 2 meter Net Report: January 14 11 January 21 12 January 28 11 February 4 12 February 11 6 2 meter Net Controllers: February 18 Tim (KCØOUV) February 25 Dave (NØMV) March 3 Brian (KCØQWB) March 10 Steve (NNØB) Note: There was some discussion about the need to update the net control information on the website. Other items on the website are being updated. 2 meter Repeater Report: Tim (KCØOUV) indicated that messages were being rotated. There was some discussion of a spring tune-up of the repeater. Kent (K9ZTV) noted a problem on the repeater one day last month. Digi-peater Report: No problems reported. MCW Report: Tom (NØSS) indicated that there were 5 check-ins last night (2/10/02). Others interested are encouraged to check-in. Tom also mentioned that the operators are all improving. Kent (K9ZTV) reminded everyone that this is a low impact practice net. Tom also discussed his modification that would allow the use of a keyer. He indicated that others around the state are contacting him with interest in the CW Net and in the kits he is putting together. The MCW Net was moved to Kevin’s (KCØCZI) repeater (146.865Mhz) to allow wider coverage. ARES Report: Rick (KCØPET) and Kevin (KCØCZI) discussed the CARE Exercise (Columbia Fire Dept.) on February 24 and 25. There was some discussion of Cole County CERT Team and their training. Hamfests: There was discussion of the January Edwardsville Winterfest as well as the ham radio stores in the St. Louis area. There was also discussion of getting together to go to Dayton. Kent (K9ZTV) indicated that there may space available in the hotel that the Collins crowd stays at. Notify Kent if interested. Dues Discussion: The bylaws approved in May, 2003 were found and will be placed onto the computer. Copies will be made for all club members and handed out at the next meeting. There was some uncertainty whether the club members had received final copies after the by- laws were approved last May. Computer Discussion: There was additional discussion of the benefits of the club obtaining a laptop computer to maintain club documents. Legislation: There was further discussion of the pending antenna legislation in Missouri. Fundraising: There was more discussion on the need for fundraising. It was acknowledged that the KCØACQ estate sale items (see New Business) would make the club financial situation more tolerable for now. Dave (NØMV) agreed to see what it would take for MMARC to become a 501C3 organization. The costs of club involvement in activities such as MEPN were the kinds of activities that might need some financial support in the future. Tim (KAØOUV) agreed to find out the latest on MEPN. Chili Cook-off: Tom (NØSS) reported that 48 people attended the chili-cook-off. The club members expressed appreciation to the Hammond’s for their hospitality. New Business: Steve Klenc (KCØACQ) Estate Sale: Tom (NØSS) reported that Steve Klenc (KCØACQ), SK, had requested that the proceeds from the sales of his amateur radio equipment be donated to the Mid-Mo Amateur Radio Club. Tom indicated that he presently had received $3,065.00 in cash and checks with more equipment remaining to sell. The Secretary-Treasurer will send a thank you note to Steve’s parents for his generosity. Tom reminded the club members that there were other items left to sell and that the club would benefit from these sales. WEØJ Survey: Kent (K9ZTV) discussed the ARRL Survey on CW. Training: ARECC Class: Kevin (KCØCZI) recommended that the Net Announcements include a reminder that the ARECC tests are available to be taken at the club meetings. Kevin has all three class tests available. Kevin awarded Steve (NNØB) the ARECC (Amateur Radio Emergency Communications Course) patch for successfully completing the class. There was discussion of whether enough interest exists to have another local class taught. It was noted just how difficult it is to get into the ARRL on-line classes due to their popularity. Also, there was discussion of having VE’s who have completed the ARECC classes assist in the presentation of any future ARECC classes. Crisis Communication Class: There was discussion of the upcoming SEMA course. Sign-ups are being taken this week. Weather Spotter Class: There are a number of upcoming weather spotter classes available in Central Missouri. Kurt (KBØHNR) mentioned that the March 9 class is in Jamestown.
