2 Meter Net Report: April 18 Kurt (KBØHNR) 14

51 check-ins

2 Meter Repeater Report: Incident of commercial service coming in although PLT is turned on. May be a trash service, since conversation mentions ‘how many dumpsters’ and gives directions to homes to pick up packages. Interference may be from multiple agencies. Full quieting, only one side of conversation. Everyone should take notes for particulars.

Digi-peater Report: Not much new to report. Some members will be using it on the trip to Dayton.

Emergency Coordinator Report: No official activation, but weather spotters have been active on several occasions. MS 150 is beginning to start up with meetings. Julie Bleich will be present at the meeting to assure them we will assist with the 150 Event in September.

Kent (K9ZTV) reports the Red Cross has been talking about having radios. Melissa Friel is the new Executive Director and the MMARC should make contact with her to set up liason with us. Many chapters are involved with the amateur community that we could get some information for her.

Direction Finding Report: Nothing to report.

Earth Day Report: 4 contacts on 10M, 70 contacts on 20M, 3 contacts on 40M, for a total of 77. 30 states and 2 countries were worked. Need to reimburse KCØCZI for printing expenses totaling $70.00. Passed out about 50 flyers, and will need to make more for Field Day. Special "Thanks" to all those who volunteered!

We’ve been invited back next year, which is a sign of a successful event! We may want to include a "hands-on" table next year so the visitors can actually tune through the bands and experience the ‘feel’ of ham radio.

ARES/SkyWarn: No Report.

Feed Line Report: Line has been inventoried and some has been disbursed. Spools are available FREE for the asking.

State Fair: No good news to report. The director does not seem very interested in having a radio exhibit, and there is a 20% budget cut to deal with. Doesn’t look like we will be doing anything at the State Fair this year.

Willis Porter Corwin: K9ZTV reported on the first trans-continental relay of a radio message passed through Jefferson City as reported in a 1917 issue of QST. Mr. Corwin was born in 1858 and died in 1959. He was instrumental in setting up some of the first commercial radio stations in St. Louis. Have not been able to confirm if any of his relatives still live in the area. His dad owned the Capital City News and he was only 18 years old when he relayed the message. The MMARC may explore the possibility of sponsoring a bronze plaque to be placed on the wall of Winter-Dent Insurance (next to where the Corwin home stood).

New business:

2 Meter Net Controllers: May 16 Bryan (KØEMT)

May 23 Tim (KAØOUV)

May 30 Steve (KCØACQ)

June 6 Bob (WBØTPK)

June 13 not named

Dayton: Approximately 20 members planning to go to Dayton this year. A group meets at Kingdom City at 7:00 a.m. Travel frequency will be 147.510. On the grounds, the frequency will be 443.175 with a –225.7 offset.

Field Day: Field Day activities will be held on Saturday June 23 and Sunday June 24, 2001. There will be one more regular meeting of the MMARC and one ‘last-minute’ meeting the Thursday before Field Day. Location will be a Maytag again, the SEMA van and Resource Vehicle will be available. Rules seem to be about the same, but this will be the last year the Novice Station will be conducted the same as in the past—no word on what form it will take in the future. We will remain 2A again this year, as in the past. Discussion about the use of using amplifiers was entertained. Our equipment (coax, new vertical 6M, 2M and 70cm) is in good shape. Last year’s separate tower gave us a lot of flexibility, and may be worth doing again. Need to contact Mike Gray (WBØDZX) to get the corrections van. Need to set-up so that we are not as close to the building, and should park on the two rocky areas in the field. Club members should make a real effort to bring and use their HTs. This will make a good demonstration for the public, and will help us communicate with each other during set-up and take-down.

Respectfully submitted (June 3, 2001): Steven C. Klenc, KCØACQ, Secretary-Treasurer
