2014 Hammond Award Recipients

We would like to congratulate the 2014 recipients of the Hammond Award, Mike Thayer, KMØS and Kent Trimble, K9ZTV. For those of you that missed the December 2014 MMARC meeting here is a brief summary of The Hammond Award.

Michael Thayer, KMØS.

Tom was the Elmer’s Elmer. He helped countless individuals obtain their amateur radio license over the years. We feel that Mike has done more over the past several years to train, license and upgrade more people in the Mid-MO area than anyone else in the MMARC. Mike has followed in the tradition of Tom in encouraging people to obtain their license and helping them achieve those goals. Over the past several years, Mike has coordinated at least two training sessions a year, resulting in many new hams and existing hams upgrading their license.

Kent Trimble, K9ZTV.

As many of you know, Tom wasn’t just about the nuts and volts of the hobby, although he excelled at that; he was also passionate about the history and tradition of amateur radio. We feel that Kent has and is carrying on Tom’s love of the art and history of ham radio. Kent has kept the history and tradition of ham radio alive in the club. From his research into and ultimately honoring Willis P. Corwin, 9ABD, to preserving and passing on the art of CW, Kent has help us all realize this hobby was built on the backs of other passionate hams who were dedicated to preserving and advancing amateur radio.
